As you may or may not be aware there is no regulated standard for acupuncture in New Zealand. There are presently bodies such as the New Zealand register of acupuncturists of which to become a member the applicant must have completed the required full time training and necessary clinical hours. NZRA members are recognised by ACC providers, this means that once you have a claim raised by your GP or other health provider you can choose to have acupuncture treatment for your injury. It is not necessary to have a referral to your acupuncturist - the choice is yours.
At present there are many practitioners of other therapies that are using acupuncture, many of who have only done short courses sometimes as short as a weekend I think personally this is unacceptable but with no law to stipulate a standard it looks like no regulation is going to be the norm for some time to come.
